Well, we have another Mother’s Day in the books. Our Preacher this morning mentioned in his prayer how some folks may not have fond memories today because maybe their Mother was not the Mother mentioned in Proverbs 31. I do pray for those folks.
I also thank God that I was blessed to have the kind of Mother that taught me about faith, fun, love for family, how to be happy even when things weren’t going well, how to respect people for how they were more so than who they were, and most importantly, how to tell or enjoy a good joke! I am very thankful for the lessons she taught me and even though I slip occasionally, (well maybe a little more often than that), I’m always grounded in her lessons and memories almost daily of her love for my brothers, sisters and me.
Now, what has service to your community got to do with Mother’s Day? You may have heard me say on my radio show or may have seen me post this on FB but there are hundreds of people that you may not see on the front page of the paper weekly or on TV 35 that are the people that make Dublin-Laurens County the special place it is. Two of those people not only do nice stuff on a regular basis, but especially on Mother’s Day.
Rob and Jennifer Shaffer, owners of Deano’s in Downtown Dublin are the two I’m talking about. Rob and Jennifer, along with their blood family and their work family “put the dog on” on Mother’s Day by having a brunch that I would say has got to be one of the best in the state and do it for an unbelievable value. Now you’ve got to be from the country to know what “put the dog on” means but translated to city talk it means “real nice”.
Rob, Jennifer and team, thanks for all the many things you do for our community but today, I want to thank you for sacrificing time with your family and friends on Mother’s Day so some of us can enjoy this great dining experience with our Mothers and families right here in Downtown Dublin GA!
Its people like you that make me love our community more every day.

Thank you Phil! We are so blessed to be a part of this amazing community! I don’t have my mom with me on this earth any longer but she taught me great things while she was here. The greatest lesson I’ve learned is that we are blessed to be a blessing and to always love well! Thank you for your kind words!
