How many of you have seen, The Wizard of OZ? I know, almost everyone. Do you remember when Dorothy repeated, “There is no place like home, there is no place like home, there is no place like home,” the whole time she was clicking those red slippers together? Well let me tell you something. This past Saturday afternoon, if I had had me some red slippers that would fit on these size 13 feet that I have, I would have been clicking those suckers together and saying THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME!! Imagine that picture.
I’m usually a day trip kind of guy. If necessary, I’ll spend the night away from home 1-3 nights but after that, I’m ready to go home. Well, of the last 10 nights, I have been away 9 nights. Three nights consisted of fun and fellowship with my two sons, nephews, brothers in law and some very close friends on a 45 year running annual “fishing” trip. A true blessing within itself. The other six were work related to GMA in San Antonio Texas, but still with some fine folks and the added benefit of having Cile with me. But let me tell you, I missed Dublin!
When I was a kid, about 5-6 years old, I wanted to spend the night with my Brother in Law and Sister, who at the time lived in Macon. After one night, I got home sick. I guess I cried enough that my sister called Mama and Daddy thinking that would help. Well, that only made it worse. When I talked to Mama, she asked me if I could make it one more night and I told her quickly, “Mama, I miss my bunk beds!” My Brother in Law drove me halfway and Daddy and Mama picked me up.
Well folks, when you are in Texas, you must wait it out!
I guess the reason I am blogging about this is to say that family, work family, Dublin and its people make you want to come home. There are more great things that I could say about Dublin and what it has meant to me and my family but there just isn’t enough time in the day! Yes, I love to see other parts of the world but I am always excited on the day that I get to come home. The small and big things that make a difference. The place that everyone knows your name. The place you feel comfortable. I don’t know, I guess it’s just HOME.
